Firstly, put on your apron (either purchased or made of plastic bag), gloves, and goggles.
Make sure to get all of your supplies which are listed to the right of the page ------->
View the dorsal and ventral sides of the frog.
Examine the hind and forelegs.
Measure the frog from the tip of its head to the end of its back bone.
Locate the frog's eyes and carefully use a tweezer to observe the nictitating membrane.
Measure the diameter of the frog's tympanic membrane.
Feel the frog's skin.
Locate the frog's tongue and play with it.
Use a probe to poke into the frog's esophagus, eustachian tube, glottis, and nostrils.
Frog Internal Anatomy + Dissection Instructions:
Place the frog ventral side up in the dissecting pan.
Using scissors, cut along the midline of the frog's body from the pelvic to the pectoral girdle to remove the abdominal muscles away from the body cavity.
Make horizontal cuts near the legs and arms and pin back the flaps of the body walls. *If your frog is a female, remove the eggs to see the organs*
Once the organs have all been located, cut the stomach out of the frog and open it. Observe the texture.
Remove the small intestine from the body and separate the mesentery from the body.
Lastly, stretch the small intestine and measure it.
Materials:
1 Ruler
1 frog per groups of two
1 Dissection tray
1 pair of scissors
1 probe (BBQ stick)
Gloves
Goggles
Camera (iPad)
Apron
Cleaning up:
Clear off and clean the desk used to dissect the frog.
Since most of the materials have been used to touch the frog, wash, dry, and replace all equipment.
Remove safety equipment carefully (that includes goggles, apron, and gloves).
